Mr. Cottontail

Spring tidings! Here's a wooden egg that I painted last night with Alex and his family.
An aside, but I remembered these bull horns hanging in my Opa's den in Downey, CA. Turns out he still had them stashed away in the garage. He then gave them to me.

The Bone Room

In Berkley, California, rests this wonderful shop called The Bone Room which sells all sorts of natural history-related goodies and absolute amazements (I made that word up, but I have no other literate word to describe my excitement). However, right here in Southern California, you can find Necromance, which is similar on Melrose Ave. in Hollywood. God, I'd love to open a shop of the such. Though, I don't think it'd be a very lucrative career choice here in the Inland Empire.

Speaking of Taxidermy......

Here I've gathered a few photos of the good, the bad, and just plain, outright ugly of the taxidermy world. Ok, mostly the latter two.

Yes, that's a USB stick.

Yes, it is what it looks like.

Still Life

I absolutely cannot wait to read this book. Melissa Milgrom approaches the controversial subject of taxidermy, studying and interviewing taxidermists for over five years. She shows that modern taxidermy intertwines art, naturalism, science, hunting, and recycling for a refreshing take on this Victorian-rooted hobby.

Check out Melissa Dixson, a NYC-based taxidermist who sells her work on etsy.com. Here's a link to her wonderful blog, shop and more: http://www.melissadixson.com/works.html

Easy, Gently

With her artful lyrics and dynamic grooves, Joanna Newson is back with her new album "Have One On Me". Love her. Listen.

Mauve Naif

I don't know about you, but I love this Montreal-based designer/screenprinter. Totem-esque, screen printed scarves and tee shirts?! Hell yes. Her (I think it's a her) works are for sale on etsy at http://www.etsy.com/shop/mauvenaif.

Aventurine

While up in Oak Glen a few days back, I came across various gemstones for sale that related to chakras and zodiac signs. I am an Aries and my assigned stone is Aventurine. It's gorgeous. And according to the packaging, the aventurine pendant was supposed to aid in bringing out the best in an Aries, heal the physical heart (heart disease runs rampant in my family...so why not start being concerned early?), and make one more daring. I'd like all of that, please. I was about to take the pendant to the register to purchase it when I realized I didn't need a stupid rock to tell me what I could or couldn't do. So, screw you, $4.50 rock!

Trilobites of the Marble Mountains

I am so very excited for our camping trip to Joshua Tree and an outting/excavation to the Marble Mountains! There, we will attempt to uncover some trilobite fossils. Trilobites were some of the earliest life members from the early Camrian age. I can't wait....

And at the Marble Mountains...apparently there are these guys: http://www.trilobites.info/CA.htm

Dusky Eyes

Now that the winter break is over, the binder's been broken out...new college-ruled, loose leafed paper all stacked neatly inside. My last semester at CHC is at hand. I am excited. And a little frightened. Here are some last glimpses at the hibernation:

Don't Forget the Crystals

Quartzite, AZ
I wish to wander there.

During part of January and February, the town of Quartzite holds a market of sorts; half mineral show, half swap meet. It's heavenly.

Also, while researching Quartzite, Arizona, came about some amazingly wonderous photos of crystals. I was enticed!

Ok, so this man here is obviously amazing and so are those minerals.

yes.

yes. no.2

That's my new post.
